Coronavirus Impact in Kalyan - India

Coronavirus and its effects on day to day life

Coronavirus has affected a huge population across the world and the figures are available all over the internet

It has affected the general life of all the citizens living across the globe

Even the remotest of the nations could not be spared with its bearing. It started with China and now its incidence is present all over the world

I stay in India, in a small city located in Mumbai

The life changed 360 degrees when India started to witness the impact of coronavirus.

We had been following the news thoroughly and knew that this virus won’t spare any nation and how vital it was to stay watchful and stay safe

Soon after the first cases were testified in India somewhere in the first week of March 2020, fright grew amongst the people

There were awareness posts circulating all over the internet be it WhatsApp Facebook twitter Instagram etc

News channels went berserk showing all the related updates frequently on the channels creating more and more fear amongst the general public

Although India had not reported many cases as compared to the other nations like China, Itlay, Spain, US, Iran, etc. still, the government promptly initiated with the deterrent measures

All the Schools and Colleges were requested to keep the premises hygienic and not allow any child who is sick to the school

All the children were checked for fever or any other symptoms at the entrance of the school. Hand Sanitizers were acquired at each school. Hands were sanitized before entering the school

Soon the number of cases started to grow and a few fresh cases developed in the vicinity of Maharashtra

All the schools and colleges were given directives to shut down from the 15th of March- till further notice, as a precautionary measure and to restraint the spread of the virus.

Every day new cases emerged generally with those who had a travel history. India still was better than many other countries at this point.

Italy had crossed a maximum number of positive cases and the highest number of deaths in a span of 15-20 days, next in line with China.

Growing worries over the spread of virus made the authorities think about making some critical decisions every single day

Frist the Schools and colleges were shut, then the offices were Requested to give work from home possibilities to the employees to refrain from being in close contact with each other. Social distancing was encouraged and people were directed to remain at home as much as possible. Also, to avoid needless travel plans and stepping out of the house for no reason.

Within the extent of one week, the government decided to lock down the state. Intercity, interstate travels were banned, locals were shut, public transport services were stopped. Only those in the essential services were permissible to travel

The office was shut down entirely. Those companies who were unable to provide work from home options to their employees were asked to shut down their offices till further notice.

We experienced the Janata curfew which was executed on 22nd March 2020

All the public across India were requested to stay indoors and follow the Janata curfew guidelines for a day. This was a trial which would make us prepared for the subsequent big curfew

The entire nation prayed in silence for the fight against coronavirus

People were asked to self-quarantine themselves till further notice as the cases started to grow each fleeting day

India was not on the threshold of community spread to date. The only cases that were positive were those who had a travel history and those who had a contact history with the affected people.

Awareness communication was sent to all the cities and villages to keep themselves safe by staying back at home.

The only option that we had was to stay indoors and protect self and stop the spread of the virus

India is a developing country and it has lesser Medical amenities as compared to other developed nations worldwide.

Considering the huge Indian population, we cannot afford to provide medical facilities to the population this big. Even the developed nations like Italy, USA Germany Spain could not contain the virus nor could they curb the fatality rate.

India is the second-most populous country in the world next to china and if we are successful in dealing with the virus, the whole world would benefit from it.

The economy worldwide has fallen drastically. But right now, the major concern of every country is to triumph over the spread of the virus. Every nation is fighting a difficult battle. Doctors, Nurses, Ward boys, Sanitation staff and other community helpers are working endlessly to monitor new cases every day, to manage the spread, to check each and every individual at every frontier possible.

Life is at a halt, each passing day anxieties over coronavirus is affecting people worldwide.

People are staying at home with families, spending some quality time together, trying new things to develop and relax and take a break from the rat race.

The densely populated city of Mumbai is under lockdown. Staying indoors is the new Mumbai Spirit. The City never sleeps yet we can say it’s on a break. The pressure and the stress with which people woke-up to are now on a snooze mode.

The roads are clearer, the sky is blue again, the birds have started chirping once again and we can actually hear their hums. Families have got closer. Nature is at is finest, with the air pollution levels dipping significantly. The beaches are clean and have few or no visitors. One can actually gaze at the night sky and see the stars shining bright.

Is this what the Mother nature wanted? I wonder if the virus is here to teach us some kind of a lesson. A warning to slow down, a lesson to live and let live. Whatever it if, we are certainly going to learn the impacts of global warming on our planet Earth. This is the correct time to stop and reason for what we are doing to save our own planet.

On 24th March 2020, A 21 days lockdown was broadcasted by the hon. Prime minister Narendra Modiji. Lockdown was operative from 24th March 2020 midnight onwards till the 14th of April.

The country was under complete lockdown, however, Modiji and other State representatives assured that the essential goods and services will be available to the general public, like vegetables, fruits, groceries, Medicines etc. public transport was totally shut only those who are involved in the essential services were allowed to travel. The government had imposed sec 144 requesting everyone to cooperate and remain at home.

Also, he mentioned there would be no need to stock up necessary stuff as it will be available on a daily basis to the public.

25th March was the first day of lockdown. This day is also an auspicious day for Hindus as the new year falls on this day, also known as Gudhi padva.

Every year we Hindus celebrate this festival with a lot of zest and enthusiasm as this marks the beginning of our Hindu New Year. People go out on the streets, dressed-up in Traditional attires, meet and greet everyone and share the delight together. This is called as the Shobha yatra which is celebrated every year in most parts of Maharashtra. This year Gudhi padwa was celebrated silently in-house with close family members.

Something was Missing, however at this day of lockdown we were very much aware that this is the need for an hour and we have to be patient and hope for a better tomorrow

Today is Day 9 of quarantine, and the entire city is under lockdown

We usually go out of the house only if we are out of groceries or vegetables & fruits. Generally, people stock-up fruits and veggies for few days in a row so that we don’t have to go out every day on the streets.

The numbers were increasing day after day, however, most of the cases that emerged had a travel history, and had contacts with the persons who had a travel history. To date, there were 50 deaths reported in the country. Most of them were admitted to the normal wards and had an average age of 61 years. Only 6 amongst the total who died were kept on ventilators. India took a timely step to lock down the entire city, which is why the numbers did not go up drastically as of now. There was no evidence of community spread as of now.

There were a few videos circulating on the web that Indians have strong immunity and therefore the virus may not harm the body at an extreme level. The majority of the Indian population are used to living in poverty and unclean conditions and therefore they are immune to a number of viruses and bacteria. However, how much of this is true can be established only after exclusive research which will take a lot of time.

Right now, the Mantra is to stay positive and stay indoors. Shield yourself and your families from the hazardous

virus of all time.

We never know what the future holds. We all are trying to spend time with each other, sharing household callings and errands in the time of emergency. Kids are learning to stay at home and stay away from their friends for a longer period of time.

Video calls, inhouse games, crafts, drawings, Television, and mobile phones are the new substitutes. We have learned time management, learned how to live a minimalistic life away from the social world.

we certainly miss going out and socializing, but yes in these tough times it is relatively more imperative to keep oneself calm and absorbed.
