Day in a life of a Stay at Home Mom

A Day in a life of a Stay at home Mom

My day starts with waking up by 7.30 Am.
These days during the lockdown period we have to get all the work done by ourselves and cannot depend on the maid. Maids once considered as a maid in Heaven is no longer allowed to provide their services in any of the housing societies.
It is, therefore, binding to get all the basic household chores done before the kids wake-up.
Chores like Mopping, cleaning, washing utensils, washing clothes, folding the clothes…the list goes on and on.
After my daughter wakes up, she has a glass full of warm milk. This keeps her energized for at least an hour or so. Post that we have our breakfast.
Breakfast usually consists of Poha, Upma, some fruits, or eggs and bread.
The lockdown period has been tough for all of us as we are unable to get the required groceries every day. We have to stock up on essentials like grains and pulses and snacks so that we don’t have to visit the stores every day.  After breakfast, we take a bath and get changed to some comfy pair of clothes. Summers are pretty harsh in Mumbai, therefore there is a need for appropriate clothing during the day. Cotton clothing is the best to be worn during the summer season here in Mumbai and also other parts of India where the heat is at its peak.
After getting dressed my Daughter and me, get ready for some fun activities.
Today we played on some dance music and had a great time dancing our hearts out.
We were done with the dancing activity by 11.
I started preparing for the food, meanwhile, my daughter thought of playing with her barbie dollhouse.
Properly placing all the big and small dolls together she started her role play. I joined her on and off while getting my job done. women are great at multitasking. They can cook, clean, play, talk over the phone, and still be active and attentive.
Food preparations were in place. Todays Menu was Veg fried Rice, which also happens to be my daughters’ favorite.
It is difficult to entertain the child all throughout the day, especially when they are toddlers and they still partially depend on you. My daughter is 6 years old and most of her day begins and ends with me being in close association with her all the while. Self-play is something that I strongly promote. Kids at this age usually develop the skills to roleplay and need some alone time with their toys. Self-playing gives them a chance to develop their creative side and enhance their thinking and imagining capacity. I make sure she indulges in a self-play routine for at least an hour in a day.
My daughter's school has come up with online learning sessions.
They offer storytelling sessions, Maths sessions, and some fun activities for the kids, via Zoom call platform.
Kids have a great time during these sessions, as they are not allowed to go out of their home, not allowed to meet or play with their friends, therefore, these one-hour sessions refresh their tender minds.

Soon after her zoom session, we gear-up for our lunch. The authentic smell of fried rice makes her taste buds happy. After relishing the meal for quite some time, its time for some rest and some mommy-daughter talks. Due to the lockdown, most of the working parents have been staying and working from home. My husband too has been working from home for almost a month now. After a quick chat its time for me to clean the kitchen and get some rest, meanwhile its TV time for my daughter. She enjoys watching Frozen II movie over and over again, However, her favorites are Little Krishna, Ganpati, Peppa Pig, Elsa, And Anna Doll Videos, etc.
While I take a nap, my husband keeps a watch over her at noon.
After a quick nap, I pull out my laptop and go through various news articles, social media, WhatsApp forwards. I indulge in writing and researching the topics for my blogger website.
Soon after my session, I get ready for preparing evening snacks. We all relish on some hot tea and some biscuits, or some lite evening snacks, like bread butter or a sandwich, or maybe a bhel or something.
We spend evenings together talking, chatting, singing to some fine songs together.

It is best to get yourself involved in some kind of creative activity. My daughter and I then start with some sketching and painting fun sessions by referring YouTube Videos. We come across many such creative and DIY videos whereby it becomes easy to experiment with them at home. As time passes evenings change to nights.
We make it a point to meditate for at least 10 mins in a day.
This refreshes the mind-body and soul.
Time to make preparations for dinner.
I usually make simple meals for the night. Mostly a bhakri and pithla, or a dal fry rice, or maybe a simple pulav with lots of veggies and ghee/ butter over the top.
A lite meal for the dinner keeps us full as well as allows us to have a sound sleep at night.
Post dinner we watch Ramayana together.
My daughter loves to watch Indian mythological stories.
She finds them to be fascinating and magical.
Theses stories convey a strong message, which I feel, every parent and child should try to develop and inculcate.
The day ends with all the fun activities, sumptuous meals, endless chats, playtime, and study time.
We wind up our day with a quick storytelling session by reading a book.
We finally kiss each other good night and wait for another wonderful day to arrive.
